Book Review: Strengthsfinder 2.0
My thoughts: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (out of 5)
There are many and I have taken many similar tests to Strengthsfinder such as 5 dynamics, Myers-Briggs (MBTI) and I found this to be the most actionable tests as the companion book lays out strategies and actions that you can immediately take.
The book breaks down into two parts
- first a general intro around the test and how it optimizes for your talents as personality changes over time
- second half talks about the themes, how you can play on your strengths, and ideas for actions.
Once you take your test you will get your top 5 themes (strengths)and you can refer to part two of the book on how to apply theme.
What I really love is that for each theme there is a short description, an example of how that theme might manifest in real life, ideas for actions to help you succeed. And in the case you are reading a certain theme and relate someone that might fall in that theme, there is a section on how to work with others who have that strength.
Also if you are curious you can get a full list of your personalized theme sequence.
I find the book pretty handy and a good reminder to myself to build upon my talents and strengths. It also helps me understand how to address the weaknesses (does my job need it, could I partner with someone?), and avoid blind spots.
But like any personality/strengths/talent test I’d caution anyone to take the assessment and treat it like it’s written in stone. Nothing is impossible with diligence and persistence. Though you might want to weigh the cost-benefit and whether it’s better to walk down the path of least resistance or if you want to battle the resistance to build life long talents.
