Book Review: The Alchemist (must read)
My thoughts: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (out of 5)
When I started this book, did not really know what to expect. The story was rather abstract and I was not sure what it was going to teach me, and yet many folks day it is one of the most influential books they read. I wondered why, almost giving up halfway, but by the time the boy met the old king, I was intrigued and stayed on through the journey.
As I flipped to the last page of the book, I let a sigh of relief it was great indeed a good book. At many points, I paused and relate to what is going on in my reality. I gained the courage of the unknown and listening to my heart more.
Lessons I embraced:
- It is the journey that matters most – yes getting to your goals are important but it is the impact and the lives you touch along the journey that truly matters
- Mentors are important – in the book the boy has a mentor for every stage of his journey. Choose your mentors wisely and they will help you grow in the areas that you need. They will guide you through the journey and be an advisor.
- Take note of what your heart says – often times there are plenty of influence and voices that takes you away from your dreams or even trying something different. Listen to your heart and follow it, craft your own path even when it is drastically different from what others expect you.
- Nothing is impossible – when you want something “All the universe conspires in helping you achieve it”.
- Have the courage to pursue you personal legend
- Quotes
- “When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
- “I must have no fear of failure. It was my fear of failure that first kept me from attempting the Master Work. Now I am begining what I could have started 10 years ago, but I am happy at least I didn’t wait for 20 years”
- “Maktub; it is written”
